Aiding in this defensive endeavor are talented personnel Misato Katsuragi, Head of Tactical Operations, and Ritsuko Akagi, Chief Scientist.

Face to face with his father for the first time in years, 14-year-old Shinji Ikari's average life is irreversibly changed when he is whisked away into the depths of Nerv, and into a harrowing new destiny—he must become the pilot of Evangelion Unit-01 with the fate of mankind on his shoulders.

Written by Hideaki Anno, Neon Genesis Evangelion is a heroic tale of a young boy who will become a legend. But as this psychological drama unfolds, ancient secrets beneath the big picture begin to bubble to the surface...

9/10
This deconstruction of the mecha genre is a wonderful knot of religious mythology and bizarre science fiction. Neon Genesis Evangelion doesn't have the best animation, but its characters and story definitely make up for it. I definitely enjoyed watching all of the characters fight against the enemy, each time a struggle to live. The most interesting aspect of the show is the psychological development in all of the characters. By the end of the series (which took me a little while to understand) you see how all of the characters develop, mostly mentally. Evangelion did revolutionize mecha, introducing new "robots" and a tad bit more realism to the genre. The show does have some weak points, in which an episode or two is just a standard "monster of the week," and by that time the viewer is bored of the same "get in the robot and fight the giant monster." I recommend this as a must watch to any mecha fan, and if you are interested in being confused by an ending for two days, go watch this. (Congratulations!)
